4 Days Burundi Tour, Burundi Tours

Detailed Itinerary.

Day 1: Arrival – Tour of Bujumbura

Your tour guide will meet you at the airport, drive you to your hotel, help you check in, have lunch and then take you to the Explorers Memorial, a massive rock in Bujumbura’s suburbs that marks the meeting place of explorers John Speke and Harington a local general goods market, and the craft centre, which is located in the city’s downtown. Head back to the hotel for dinner and a restful night.

Accommodation: Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika.

Meals: (Dinner).

Day 2: Source of Nile – Karera Waterfalls – Transfer to Gitega.

After breakfast, take an early morning trip to the fabled “Source of Nile,” followed by a drive through the breathtaking tea plantations and Ijenda scenery. Don’t forget to bring your camera so you can snap some photos. After lunch, drive to Gitega, the second-largest town in Burundi and the capital of its colonial era. Stop at the National Museum to see its collection of relics; the town is home to the city’s administrative offices, as well as numerous Catholic schools and Mushasha.

Accommodation: Tropitel Hotel.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 3: Visit Gishora Drum Sanctuary – Kirundo.

We plan to take it easy today and eat breakfast and lunch at the hotel. You will visit the Drum Sanctuary this afternoon. Although the town is well-known for its drums, Burundi is losing its drum traditions. Perched atop a hill, Gishora is situated 7km from Gitega’s downtown. The town is home to two unbroken ritual drums, Ruciteme (the drum for whom we clear the forest) and Murimirwa (the drum for whom we cultivate). The two names have a close connection to farming and make reference to fertility, the Royal Palace’s architectural complex, which is uncommon to find in other parts of the nation. The common drums that the Batimbo beat on national holidays and at midday meals are located in the same area. Proceed to Kirundo where you will spend the night and eat.

Accommodation: Top Hill Residence.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 4: Kirundo – Bujumbura.

Enjoy a birdwatching tour in Kirundo, a region of vast depressions filled with numerous lakes and abundant in bird life, after an early breakfast. It’s a really beautiful location with excellent canoe viewing; lakes Cohoha, Kacamirinda, and Kanzigiri are well known as ornithological reserves where you may watch a variety of bird species. After making a stop in Teza to view the magnificent tea plantations, return to Bujumbura to catch your flight home.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch).
