Day 2: Kigali City Tour – Transfer to Kinigi Town

Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Museum after breakfast. It is one of the museums created to honour the victims of the Rwandan genocide in 1994. More than 250,000 victims of the Rwandan Genocide against the Tutsi tribe are laid to rest here. It pays tribute to the over a million Rwandans who lost their lives in 1994. This sombre trip will help you understand how this very small nation has bounced back swiftly from its traumatic past. Visit Hotel Des Mille Collines for lunch; it was a part of the 2004 Hollywood film “Hotel Rwanda.”

After lunch, travel to Kinigi Town, the entrance to the Virunga Mountains, via a good road that winds across undulating hills. At the most opulent camp, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge, you will be checked in. Situated amidst tranquil gardens, it offers breathtaking vistas of the Virungas, an array of both active and inactive volcanoes. With eight bedrooms and a main house made of stone and tile, this quaint lodge is well-built. The main lodge features enormous Mediterranean-style tiles, gorgeous windows, and walls painted in mustard colour. Giant masks that are fixed to the walls and gaze out over the slopes give the encounter a genuine air of mystery.

Inside, the communal spaces include a bar, library, games room, verandah, dining room and seating areas. The inside is decorated with well-maintained wooden flooring, white walls, low slatted ceilings, a variety of sleep seating, open log fires and African prints.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Days 3: Mountain Gorilla Trekking

Part of the Virungas, which Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo share, Volcanoes National Park serves as the sole home for the few mountain gorillas that remain. This morning, take a quick trip to the park headquarters to meet your gorilla trekking guides. More specifically, ranger guides. Before you head out into the dark rain forest, they will give you a brief tutorial on the protocols and etiquette of tracking gorillas. Before you leave, a group of trackers will be in the forest trying to give you an 80% chance of seeing these magnificent primates.

Their mission is to locate the gorillas’ previous sighting location and track them to a climax, or point where you may establish a connection. Even while the walk might be physically taxing, the stunning forest and surrounding environment, along with the eventual payoff of seeing the gorillas up close, a profoundly poignant animal encounter, make the effort worthwhile. Come back to the lodge and unwind while observing the sun set over the horizon.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking – Return to Kigali – Departure.

After breakfast, head back to the park headquarters to meet the park guide for a guided walk through the jungle to see the endangered golden monkeys. The majority of these golden monkeys reside in the bamboo area of this hilly park, not far from the base, and are active throughout the day. An early-morning gorilla expedition is operated similarly to a golden monkey trek. Eight people maximum per group. After spending an hour with the golden monkeys, you will return to the resort for lunch, a chance to freshen up, and a ride to the airport for your departure.

Meals: (Breakfast, Lunch).
