Day 4: Visit Gishora Drum Sanctuary

Visit Gishora’s drum sanctuary after breakfast. One of Burundi’s well-known drum locations is Gishora. Gishora is located 7 kilometres from Gitega’s city centre atop a hill. Two ritual drums, Ruciteme (the one for whom we clear the forest) and Murimirwa (the one for whom we farm), are also located at the Gishora site. These drums have never been hammered. The two titles allude directly to the king’s fertility and are closely associated with the farming profession. We also have regular drums that the Batimbo could beat on national holidays.

To experience the dying Burundian cultural tradition, visit the Gishora Drum Sanctuary. The site replicates a royal palace’s architectural complex, which is uncommon to see in other parts of the nation. The performance of the drummers can be seen here. Go exploring the city after lunch. Georgia’s second-biggest town, Gitega, is known for its distinctive colonial architecture. The National Museum, with its collections of archaeology and ethnography, is housed there.
